What does an AI consultant cost for a small business in Australia?
It varies wildly — from free government programs to six-figure transformation projects. Here's our pricing, in plain sight: the first step, an AI Opportunity Audit, is free and takes 45 minutes. If you want us to build what we find, a fixed-scope Sprint is A$4,500–6,000. Ongoing support after that is optional: A$590 a month to keep things running, or A$3,000 a month if you want us finding and delivering new opportunities every month. No lock-in on any of it.
What is an AI Opportunity Audit?
A 45-minute look at how your business actually runs — where the hours go, what gets typed twice, what sits in someone's head. You leave with the three jobs AI could realistically take off your plate, and what each is worth in hours and dollars. It's free, and it's useful even if you never spend a cent with us: you'll know what's worth doing and what's hype.
Where should a small business start with AI?
Not with buying software. Start by working out which jobs in your business are repetitive, rule-based, and eating hours — those are the ones AI does well. Pick one, prove it works, measure the saving, then move to the next. That's the whole method. Buying tools first and looking for problems second is how most small businesses waste money on AI. There's a full free guide on this: Where to start with AI.
Is AI safe to use with customer data?
It can be, if you set it up deliberately. The short version: know which tools see your data, keep customer records out of free consumer AI tools, and write down the rules so your team isn't guessing. We set every client up with a plain-English AI use policy as part of the work. We're not lawyers — if something needs legal eyes, we'll say so and help you brief them.
Do I need technical staff to use AI in my business?
No. The tools we recommend are ones your existing team can run — that's a selection rule, not a hope. If a solution needs a developer on standby to keep working, we don't recommend it. Part of every Sprint is making sure the people who'll use it day-to-day can actually run it without us.
How long until we see results?
A Sprint runs three to eight weeks, and it's scoped so the benefit is measurable — in hours or dollars — by the end. If we can't see a path to a measurable result, we'll tell you at the audit stage, before you've spent anything.
What kind of businesses do you work with?
Established Australian owner-operated businesses — typically service businesses with roughly 5 to 50 staff. Trades, professional services, hospitality, allied health. If you've been running for years and the admin has grown with you, you're who we built this for.
Why Helexian?
Twenty-odd years of making change actually stick inside Australian organisations — the unglamorous work of getting new systems used, not just installed. And before any of that, my parents ran a small business for 30 years, so I know what it costs to bet time and money on something that might not work. That's why everything here starts free, gets measured, and has no lock-in. — Dean Williams, founder
